1. Who we are
Tauk and Tauk.App (collectively, “Tauk,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) are products of Green Seed Technologies LLC, an Orem, Utah company. This Privacy Policy applies to the Tauk website, Chrome extension, hosted sharing service, and future Tauk applications that link to this policy.
2. Information we collect
Account, member, and organization information
When you create an account or participate in a workspace, we may collect your name, email address, self-reported organization or job role, password authentication record, email-verification status, workspace memberships, access and media roles, invitation and ownership-transfer status, and preferences. A workspace owner or administrator may also provide an organization or workspace name, company name, organization type, industry, employee-size band, website, intended uses, and related notes. These profile fields help operate and understand Tauk for Teams; a job title, company name, or email domain never grants authorization by itself. Our authentication provider processes credentials and session tokens; Tauk does not store your plain-text password.
Recording content and personal communications
At your direction, Tauk can capture camera video, a selected browser tab, window, or screen, and microphone audio. These sources may contain website content, personal communications, images, voices, financial details, or other information that you choose to record. Tauk also stores titles, edit decisions, thumbnails, durations, processing status, and sharing and access settings associated with a recording.
Local application data and Chrome Sync
The extension stores recording chunks and metadata in browser storage on your device. It may also store device preferences, installation time, sign-in session data, the selected workspace, and recovery information. If Chrome Sync is enabled for your Chrome profile, Tauk’s theme preference can synchronize through Chrome to other Chrome browsers where you use that profile.
Tauk website interaction
On tauk.app and www.tauk.app only, the official extension can recognize marked Tauk controls and the current Tauk page path so the site can indicate that the extension is installed, open My Recordings, or enhance navigation between a Tauk share page and the extension. This content bridge does not run on or collect content from arbitrary websites, and Tauk does not collect general browsing history.
Service, usage, approximate-location, and diagnostic data
When you use Tauk’s hosted service, we may process request timestamps, network and device information, browser or app version, IP address, error and security logs, storage and delivery usage, render activity, invitation and membership activity, and records needed to prevent abuse, operate workspaces, and allocate service costs. An IP address can indicate an approximate city or region; Tauk does not request precise device geolocation through the Chrome extension.
Viewer access and playback activity
When viewer analytics are available and a person plays a public Tauk recording, Tauk creates a short-lived random playback-session token and may process player readiness, visible playback starts, playback position and speed, watch-time heartbeats, progress milestones, completions, and replays. For estimated unique viewers and password-attempt protection, the service derives a one-way, publication-scoped value from the network address using a backend secret. Tauk does not store a raw network address as the analytics identifier or use that value to correlate a viewer across different publications. The creator receives aggregate, unattributed playback statistics rather than an identified viewer profile. Loading, scanning, or unfurling a link without deliberate playback does not count as a qualified playback.
Billing, account configuration, and support information
If Checkout is available and a workspace owner purchases a paid plan or additional Creator seats, Stripe collects and processes payment details. Tauk receives information needed to operate and reconcile the subscription, such as billing email, Stripe customer and transaction identifiers, plan, seat quantity, subscription and payment status, invoices, and limited card information such as brand and last four digits—not the full card number. We also keep effective-dated records of complimentary Creator capacity, workspace feature exceptions, the administrator who made the change, the stated reason, and related audit facts. If you contact us, we collect the message and contact information you provide.
3. Why we use information
- Provide recording, editing, backup, rendering, download, sharing, authentication, and workspace features.
- Create and administer workspaces, invitations, memberships, roles, ownership transfers, seat capacity, complimentary access, and workspace feature settings.
- Maintain local recovery, sync state, and user preferences.
- Provide creators with aggregate playback statistics when that feature is available.
- Process, reconcile, and support subscriptions and communicate about the service.
- Secure Tauk, prevent fraud and abuse, troubleshoot failures, and enforce our Terms.
- Measure signup, activation, usage, service reliability, storage, processing, and delivery so authorized operators can support customers and improve Tauk.
- Comply with law and protect the rights, safety, and integrity of users, Green Seed Technologies LLC, and others.
4. Browser permissions
The Chrome extension requests only permissions tied to its recording and sharing purpose:
| Permission or access | How Tauk uses it |
|---|---|
| Camera and microphone | Show a live preview and capture sources for modes that use them. Chrome prompts the first time; after permission is granted, opening the recorder may restore the preview without another prompt. |
| Screen, window, or tab | Capture the surface you explicitly choose through Chrome’s trusted screen picker. |
| Storage and unlimited storage | Keep durable recording chunks, metadata, recovery state, sessions, and preferences on your device. The theme preference may use Chrome Sync as described above. |
| Clipboard write | Copy a share link or linked email thumbnail when you choose a copy action. |
| Tauk website access | Sign in and exchange recording, workspace, upload, rendering, and playback data with Tauk-owned service endpoints. On Tauk-owned pages only, the content bridge also recognizes marked Tauk actions and page paths for installed-extension status and navigation. It does not run on arbitrary websites. |
Tauk does not begin a recording merely because the extension is installed or opened. Recording starts only after you select Start. Camera or microphone preview can resume after prior permission, while screen capture always requires Chrome’s picker.
Tauk’s use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Tauk does not permit personnel or service-provider personnel to read recording content or other Chrome-derived user content except with the user’s explicit permission for specific support, when necessary for security or abuse investigation, when required by law, or after the information has been aggregated and anonymized for internal operations.
5. When information leaves your device
Your recording begins in browser-managed storage on your device. Original camera, screen, and microphone source files and related recording metadata are uploaded only after you explicitly select Back up originals or Publish. On Free, Publish temporarily transfers any missing originals for server-side rendering; Tauk does not retain those transferred inputs as a cloud backup. Deletion begins after terminal processing, but Tauk does not promise a fixed cleanup deadline that has not been approved and verified. On Creator, Back up originals or Publish may retain originals in cloud storage, subject to the plan and Tauk’s normal storage, processing, and lifecycle limits. Publishing also sends edit instructions and creates the generated rendition and share link. Tauk displays this transfer before those actions, and neither action silently deletes the local original.
Share links are unlisted, not automatically private. Unless the creator enables an available password or expiration control, anyone who receives the URL may be able to view it. Passwords and expiration reduce unintended access but cannot prevent an authorized recipient from copying or recording content. You are responsible for choosing appropriate content, settings, and recipients.
6. When we disclose or permit access to information
We may disclose information or permit access:
- To people who receive your link. Publishing creates an unlisted URL; a person with access under the creator’s selected link, password, and expiration settings may view and redistribute the content.
- Within your workspace. Workspace owners and administrators can see member identity, role, invitation, seat, and workspace-profile information and can administer workspace-owned content as their authorization permits. A successor who accepts ownership receives the owner’s workspace-administration authority.
- To authorized Tauk operators. Personnel with a business need and explicit platform permission may access customer, account, membership, usage, billing-reconciliation, system-health, and audit information for support, security, reliability, and account administration. Access and privileged changes are designed to be limited and auditable; general impersonation is not part of the current admin tools.
- To service providers. Vendors may process authentication, hosting, storage, rendering, delivery, email, support, monitoring, or payments only as needed to provide and secure Tauk under agreements that limit their use of the information. Current primary providers include Supabase for authentication and application data, Google Cloud for application hosting, media storage, delivery, and operational logging, and Stripe when payment processing is enabled.
- For legal and safety reasons. We may respond to valid legal process, protect rights and safety, investigate abuse, or enforce agreements.
- During a business transaction. Information not subject to stricter platform rules may transfer as part of a financing, merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale, subject to applicable law. Information subject to Chrome Web Store Limited Use requirements will transfer only as that policy permits, including obtaining the user’s prior explicit consent before a merger, acquisition, or asset sale.
We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not use recording content to build advertising profiles, determine creditworthiness, or support lending.
7. Retention and deletion
Local recordings remain in browser-managed storage until you delete them, clear the relevant browser data, remove the extension, or the browser removes them. A recovery folder or downloaded copy is outside Tauk’s control and must be deleted separately.
Free source inputs transferred for publishing are temporary render inputs, not a retained cloud backup. Tauk begins deletion after terminal processing and uses cleanup work designed to retry and verify removal, but exceptional recovery or legal circumstances may affect timing and no fixed maximum deletion time is promised here. Creator original-source backups may be retained subject to the plan and Tauk’s normal limits and lifecycle rules.
Hosted edits, account information, and publication records are retained while needed to provide the service and for reasonable security, dispute, audit, and legal periods. Removing a hosted copy revokes its link and begins deletion of its hosted media; related security, usage, audit, and aggregate analytics records may remain until the recording or account is deleted or an applicable retention process removes them. Raw viewer events and expired session records may be removed earlier than aggregate publication statistics. Because Tauk does not currently promise a shorter fixed analytics-retention period, analytics and operational records may remain while the related publication and account exist. Certain billing, security, audit, and legal records may be kept when required or reasonably necessary.
To request account deletion, follow the steps at tauk.app/delete-account. Team-owned content may transfer to an authorized workspace owner instead of being deleted when a member leaves.
8. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. Personal and sensitive information transmitted to Tauk’s hosted service uses encrypted HTTPS connections, and hosted providers use encryption at rest. Local browser data is protected by your browser, operating system, device account, and device-security settings and is not separately encrypted by Tauk. No service can promise absolute security. Keep share links and account credentials secure, and contact us if you believe your account or content has been exposed.
9. Your choices and rights
You may access or update certain account, member, and organization details; accept or decline invitations and ownership transfers addressed to you; choose whether to publish; select available password, expiration, and download settings; remove a hosted copy to revoke its link; delete individual local recordings; sign out; remove the extension; and request account deletion. Authorized workspace administrators may change membership and workspace settings, while only the current owner can initiate billing and ownership transfer. Depending on where you live, you may also have legal rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of personal information. We may need to verify your identity and workspace authority before completing a request.
10. Recording other people
You are responsible for obtaining any notice, permission, or consent required before recording, uploading, or sharing another person’s image, voice, screen, communications, or personal information. Recording-consent laws vary by location and context.
11. Children
Tauk accounts are intended for people who are at least 18 years old or the age of legal majority where they live. The service is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly permit a child under 13 to create an account or knowingly collect personal information directly from a child under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information without appropriate authorization.
12. United States processing
Green Seed Technologies LLC is based in the United States. Information may be processed and stored in the United States and other locations where our service providers operate, subject to applicable safeguards and law.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Tauk changes. We will post the revised policy with a new “Last updated” date and provide additional notice when required.
